I purchased this lens after a lot of looking around and was almost convinced to go with the cheaper Tamron. Am I glad I didn’t!! Within Minutes of receiving the lens it was in use and being a bit of a newbie to DSLR photography I was somewhat surprised at the results I was achieving immediately. I can honestly say I am more than happy with the results this lens as provided so far and look forward to many happy hours of snapping away. I have finally been able to achieve those high speed shots of the local bird life that had always eluded me trying to take them with the bridge camera I had. If you are looking for a very reasonably priced lens that is up to the job, then this is certainly worth serious consideration.
i am using this on a pre-owned Canon EOS 450D,which came with the standard 18-55mm lens. and was looking for a lens with a bit more oomph in it.
Purchased through Amazon from a company called Digiplus and could not fault their service, very fast delivery and £80 cheaper than the same lens would have cost from Jessops

I’m new to this photography lark and this was my first purchase when it came to an additional lens…and I’ve not been disappointed. There are so many more expensive lenses out there, but this one seemed to give me the range I wanted without breaking the bank…and it has IS (Image Stabilisation) too, which is a must when taking photos at full zoom.
The more I use this lens, the more I love it. I’m sure there are other lenses out there that may do a better job…but for the money, I can’t imagine one that’s better value for money.
And the lens hood you need is Canon ET-60, which isn’t the prettiest of lens hoods, but does do the job.
EDIT: November 2013
I’ve moved on to L lenses now and have sold this lens. L lenses offer so much more, but then again, they’re so much more expensive. I bought this lens as a photography novice, and if I was in that position again, I would buy this lens again. It’s still great value for the money and offers a beginner a great step up from the stock lens offering a good range.

Got Duplicate one with duplicate warranty card.. not original

One of the best telephoto zoom lens for beginners.
Bought it from Appario Retail and they send original box packed genuine product and able to register the same on edge@cannon.
Though due to non frequent availability of this lens in the market prices were high at this time but, at the end you won’t regret after the spending this amount.

The lens is as described, in canon unsealed box for those that matters. Bought from cam zone. For people having trouble with autofocus can try AI SERVO mode. I would give 5 star if price was justified, that is ₹10k. About canon warranty I didn’t try out yet as they have the most unfriendly website and confusing warranty updation. You never know when you are finished. So just trying to make sure I never have to visit them in 1-2 years. Keep lens capped n clear off the edges. Nothing will go wrong. As for photos some are taken I am a learner.

I’m not a professional photographer, but have used this to take pictures in conjunction with a Canon Eos 500D (japanese equivalent Kiss X3 model), and am very happy with the results.
The level of zoom is not staggering, but a good example of what this is perfect for is when you are at the zoo, and can take really clear, close pictures of the animals in their enclosures. It won’t make an aeroplane that’s far away really detailed, it isn’t strong enough, but as a starter for an amateur like me this works well. The construction is OK, though it doesn’t feel really solid; the upside is that it is still light, so when on the camera doesn’t make it really front heavy.
The quality of the pictures are great, and in the ones I have taken, there has been nothing about the corner quality that has attracted attention, so it clearly isn’t an issue of any note in the usage I have put it to.
Essentially this is a good lens

I don’t normally review items but…
I bought this a while ago due to the brilliant reviews it had. Yesterday was the first time I have used it. I went to Whipsnade and I took my 550d with this lens and my 24-105L. When I got home I was totally amazed to see that this lens had out gunned the L in every way. The quality of the images is fantastic from 55 to 250. It is light and doesn’t feel like a quality item the way the L lens does but the output didn’t just match a lens I paid nearly 5 times as much for, it destroyed it. As both lenses were used on the same body with the same settings there can be no doubt that the better photo’s were due to the lens and nothing else. I’m not only so impressed with this lens that I wrote this review, I’m now wondering if I even need to keep the 24-105L??
An amazing lens at an even more amazing price.

If you are working on a budget then you can’t go far wrong with this lens. Feels good, takes good photos and I like it. The end rotates on focussing so polarisation filters will need constant adjustment but you can’t have everything can you?
I deliberately selected a supplier who was fulfilled by Amazon to ensure that the packaging would be good. For those that don’t know what ‘fulfilled’ means in this context it means that Amazon hold the stock of another supplier in their warehouse then pick and pack it on their behalf. The lens comes in its own Canon box which would be good enough if sent in a sturdy jiffy bag. Amazon put the lens in a bigger box an filled the gap with rolled up brown paper so the lens arrived in perfect condition.
Update a few months on…
I am happy with the lens. You can always spend more and get better but this is a good lens when the light is good. I remain happy with the purchase

The item is good but seems like it is taken out from the Canon 1200D package with two lens offer to be sold separately and the shipped box is without any branding. When the lens was registered for warranty, it was showing as the Canon 1200D. Not sure how the warranty would be applicable.

The lens is original, I registered online though there was som issues on warrenty dates but tht was also taken care of. The lense is very nice, zoom quality is unbeatable. The picture quality ia awsome. Canon should give a lens protection cover. True value for money and I guess the best lens in this price.
